Water-level observations
Source: waterlevel.ie, provided by the Office of Public Works (OPW).
Contains Irish Public Sector Information licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
The OPW API documentation permits republication of station references 00001–41000 under its general reuse policy. This atlas also requires OPW operator metadata, a Republic of Ireland county, reviewed river context, primary water-level sensor 0001 and no known station exclusion. Individual restrictions override the general policy. These checks do not mean every station page has been individually reviewed.
Read the full OPW disclaimer, notes, warnings and conditions of use. Readings are provisional and unchecked, may contain instrument errors, and may be delayed or missing. OPW does not guarantee their accuracy or continuous availability. Verify data independently for your intended use.
For presentation, station references are normalized and observation times are displayed in Ireland’s local time. Charts and any daily summaries are calculated by rivers.ie from collected readings. Summaries can have incomplete coverage and are not official OPW daily means. The original measurement timestamps are retained.
Ecological information
Source: Environmental Protection Agency (Ireland), Water Framework Directive Open Data API, with official context on catchments.ie. The EPA licenses this API data under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International.
rivers.ie selects and links reviewed waterbody records to river pages and presents their assessment labels and periods. An assessment applies to the named waterbody and stated period, rather than every stretch of the river or conditions today. A missing verified link is shown as unavailable. No ecological status is inferred from an OPW station reading.
Interactive map
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. The interactive map uses OpenStreetMap’s standard tile service only when you choose to load it. Decorative river lines elsewhere are abstract illustrations and do not depict surveyed river courses.
River catalogue references
River descriptions are written for this atlas using the linked references. County listings describe the atlas’s verified connections and station coverage; they are not a complete survey of each river’s course.
